Aeration is the treatment process whereby water is brought into intimate contact with air for the pur-pose of (a) increasing the oxygen content, (b) reducing the carbon dioxide content, and (c) removing hydrogen sulphide, methane and various volatile organic compounds responsible for bad taste and odour.
