Environmental Health Risk Assessment

The environment in which humans live is an important determinant of population health. Globally, the World Health Organization in 2006 estimated that about one-quarter of the global burden of disease (and more than one-third for children) is attributable to modifiable environmental factors, although this burden is shared disproportionately among developing countries as compared to developed ones. It is important that environmental health risks are carefully assessed using the best available scientific methods and that appropriate risk management strategies are developed to anticipate, prevent, and mitigate such risks.
