Desalination The Vision Of Today And Future

Desalination provides hope to the world community that we can provide water, the essence of life, at a reasonable cost, solving the scarcity of existing water supplies, avoiding regional and territorial conflicts, and providing the water resource for sustainable development.

Carbohydrazide Vs Hydrazine A Comparative Study

The corrosion rates indicated very little or negligible corrosion due to either hydrazine or Carbohydrazide. However hydrazine showed much lower rates compared to Carbohydrazide

Treatment of RO Concentrate Using VSEP Technology

Abstract The city of El Paso has the largest inland brackish desalination plant in the world. The Kay Bailey Hutchison (KBH) Desalting plant produces 15 million of permeate water every day. Due to the excellent quality of the water, the permeate water is blended with brackish water producing a final volume of 27.5 million gallons of water every day. With an average recovery rate of 80%, the KBH plant produces an average of 3 million gallons of concentrated brackish water that is disposed of via injection wells 23 miles from the plant. Conventional reverse osmosis (RO) systems are not capable of treating the KBH concentrate due to the high concentrations of dissolved solids. At these concentrations, some of the dissolved solids start to precipitate (i.e. silica for example) causing fouling of membranes.

Geothermal Membrane Distillation for Large-Scale Use

Executive Summary The goal of this project (Geothermal Membrane Distillation for Large-Scale Use)was to perform pilot-scale field testing of geothermal membrane distillation (GMD) so that a techno-economic model could be developed to assess the commercial viability of full-scale GMD systems. For the western states where untapped brackish groundwater and geothermal resources are abundant, GMD offers a unique opportunity to desalinate geothermal brackish groundwater with the innate heat to supplement freshwater demand.

VSEP Treatment of RO Reject from Brackish Well Water

Abstract Conventional spiral wound membrane systems using reverse osmosis or nano-filtration membranes are increasingly being used to treat well water from underground sources to supplement local drinking water supplies. Many of the remaining underground water sources are "Brackish" water sources where the dissolved solids can be 5,000 mg/L or even higher.
