Groundwater Resources and Salt Water Intrusion in a Changing Environment
Abstract: This Special Issue presents the work of 30 scientists of 11 countries. It confirms that the impacts of global change, resulting from both climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure, are huge on worldwide coastal areas (and very particularly on some islands of the Pacific Ocean), with highly negative effects on coastal groundwater resources, widely affected by seawater intrusion.

Groundwater Contamination and Remediation
Abstract: This special issue of Water brings together ten studies on groundwater contamination and remediation. Common themes include practical techniques for plume identification and delineation, the central role of subsurface processes, the pervasiveness of non-Fickian transport, and the importance of bacterial communities in the broader context of biogeochemistry.

Managed Aquifer Recharge for Water Resilience
Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is the purposeful recharge of water to aquifers for subsequent recovery or environmental benefit. MAR is increasingly used to make water supplies resilient to drought, climate change and deteriorating water quality, and to protect ecosystems from declining groundwater levels. Global MAR has grown exponentially to 10 cu.km/year and will increase ten-fold within a few decades. Well informed hydrogeologists, engineers and water quality scientists are needed to ensure that this investment is effective in meeting increasingly pressing needs. This compilation contains lessons from many examples of existing projects, including several national and continental summaries. It also addresses the elements essential for identifying and advancing projects such as mapping aquifer suitability and opportunities, policy matters, operational issues, and some innovations in MAR methods and monitoring.

Groundwater Overexploitation in the North China Plain: A Path to Sustainability
This book does not only describe the problem and the path to its solution. It also gives access to nine manuals concerning methods used. They include computer programs and the game Save the Water. The Chinese experience should be of considerable interest to other regions in the world which suffer from over-pumping of aquifers.

Impacts of Climate on Renewable Groundwater Resources and/ or Stream-Aquifer Interactions
This book collects recent and original contributions in the field of climate and underlying human influences on renewable groundwater resources and/or stream–aquifer interactions. The readers can find the contributions both interesting and inspiring when exploring the field of impacts of climate (past, current, and future) on natural, premeditated, and unpremeditated aquifer recharge sources determining the renewable fraction of the groundwater resource.

Well Water Quality and Home Treatment Systems
This publication is an overview of systems commonly used to treat water quality problems. It is preferable to provide a safe source of water rather than depend upon treatment devices to remove aesthetic and/or health related contaminants because treatment units may unknowingly fail completely or malfunction. The best approach is to determine how and where contaminants are entering the system and eliminate the entry pathway. Some contaminants are naturally occurring in ground water and treatment may be the only option.
